I believe the "star child" skull is from a child with Treacher Collins syndrome. Check out the case of Juliana Wetmore, a little girl born a few years back with a very severe case of the disorder, which come is many gradations, from barely noticable to life threatening.

But surely not all mutants are miracles, and not all mutations are evidence of racial change. And mentally and emotionally people with treacher/collins are no different than anyone else, with a range of abilities like the rest of the population. I agree that many times a miracle is passed off as a "deformity", but I don't know if this is one of them. One "mutation" that intrigues me is the rh- blood factor. I am beginning to wonder if the "autist gene" (just to give it a working handle) is tied to the genes (or lack of them in this case) that code for rh- blood.
p.s. Just to clarify, I didn't say this IS a treacher/collins skull, just that it seems to be one.
